Luke: (Lk 11:9-13)
And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish? Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the holy Spirit to those who ask him?” If you understand this, blessed are you… if you do it.
Vincentian Reflection
We have all seen the catholic calendar, most commonly produced as a circle sliced into a colorful representation of the liturgical seasons.
A glance at the calendar tells us that Easter is almost over, and we are just 17 days from Pentecost.
Pentecost, besides marking the end of the Easter season also opens the door to the single biggest slice of the catholic calendar…that’d be Ordinary time for us…all the way to the end of the year and arrival of Advent.
We’ve been building towards this day since the first day of Advent some 170 days ago. Since then we have been blessed with Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace (Advent), followed the example of the Greatest Gift (Christmas giving), had our spirits Cleansed and Focused (Lent), then Purified and Refreshed (Easter) and soon, Filled with the Holy Spirit (Pentecost).
Break time! Whew. But…
These blessings are given to each of us by our Creator and Savior; they are administered by our Mother Church and enabled by our faith. They can empower and should embolden us to go forth and do the Lord’s work.
