St Vincent de Paul Spiritual Reflection April 2016

April 2016

The Glory of Easter is around us and hopefully within us as we celebrate these fifty days of Easter.

When considering how one might apply Easter principles to this reflection, I thought of how Lent and Easter are not one in the same but parts of the whole just as how each of us are part of God’s grand design.

With Lent, we’re asked to reflect our relationship with The Lord, our own particular sinful inclinations and to seek a more perfect way through reflection, penance and reconciliation.  With Easter, we celebrate our participation in Christ’s gifts – including the Eucharist, his resurrection and his defeat of Death. And part of this celebration is considering how we are to fulfil our baptismal promise to serve – that is to share the ”Good News”.

Adding to this baptismal promise, I extract a bit from last month’s reflection, a quote reminding us of our Vincentian mission:

“The Society has two aims: to do a great deal of spiritual good to its members through the exercise of charity, and to do a little spiritual and temporal good to a few poor families in the name of Jesus Christ. “

And lastly, as final ingredient for this soup of a reflection – Item G1 on tonight’s agenda, “New Activities”. While there are many worthwhile “Activities” we can and should consider, not the least of which would be fund-raising opportunities, I suggest we also try to seek new activities that rise to the challenge of our baptismal promise and also do a great deal of spiritual good for each and all of us living the Vincentian promise.

May the Lord help us and guide us for his purpose, Amen.
