St Vincent de Paul Spiritual Reflection June 2016

Mark, Chapter 6: 30-34

Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you

For everyone who asks, receives;
and the one who seeks, finds;
and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened

Reflection:

A short reading, a brief reflection tonight. Well, maybe brief.

Perhaps it’s just me, but I can almost see the theme for tonight.

Money. Liquid assets. What we have, where it went, and where will it perhaps come from next.

My reflection is:
Addressing our situation and concerns regarding upcoming demands is necessary and responsible management.

But let us try to keep the focus on the needs that surround us. What those needs are, with whom they reside.

And, dare I say, perhaps even seeking out those in need or planning to offer help that is never requested.

For example, our parish generously provides two weeks of shelter from the winter weather in generally mild California, but nothing while it’s 101 degrees out.

So let’s ask ourselves and then plan for the most that we can accomplish. Let our faith, our prayers, and our determination to open the door to the means.
