St Vincent de Paul Spiritual Reflection September 2018

September 2018

Ephesians: (EPH 4:11-13)

 Brothers and sisters:

(But) grace was given to each of us
according to the measure of Christ's gift.

And he gave some as Apostles, others as prophets,
others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers,

to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry,
for building up the Body of Christ,

until we all attain to the unity of faith
and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood,
to the extent of the full stature of Christ.

Vincentian Reflection

For anyone sufficiently blessed (or cursed) to be expected to share their thoughts in a formal manner as I am right now – well, it’s inevitable that the cupboard is empty and I must speak to having no thoughts.

Of course “…having no thoughts” isn’t entirely true. For one, any prayerful life is full of thoughts – who we’re praying for, what we’re confessing and the requests we may have.

So maybe I’m personally distracted by starting next Wednesday I’ll be home for two nights out of thirty-five.

And maybe it’s simply the shadow hanging over our Chapter and our need for a duly elected President that is clouding my ability to reflect as I would like to.

So there’s the reflection, que no? What delightful crosses to bear compared to so many others. Who’s going to be president, when (or what) will I pack…phft. If this is truly the distractions fluttering in my head then I indeed must remind myself how The Lord has truly blessed me.

I’m thinking the same is true for most of us here…If we’re here, we’re not seeking a warm place to sleep tonight or wondering when if ever our bellies will be full again. Any wouldn’t a shower with an unlimited supply of hot water be heavenly?

So with our hearts lifted in joy at God’s great graces and this gift of time together, let us proceed in earnest and address our little challenges as placed before us.
